Neo's big operation

Neo's neutered on July 29th. It's a difficult decision for us. We wanted him to live a happy and full life, but unfortunately we didnot find any better alternative. We thought of making him a stud dog, but we dont have the time or energy to arrange the dates; we thought of getting him a girlfriend, but then it means we either have to neuter that dog, or get a neutered dog from a shelter. The former is as bad as neutering Neo. The latter will be inhuman or immoral, as the neutered dog will not be interested. If we do nothing, then it'd cause health and behavioral problems. An unneutered non-stud dog would live a short and miserable life. So finally we decided to do it.

I felt upset weeks ahead and procrastinated, but Neo's behavior has caused us some problems in the dog park. We were banned twice from the dog park as Neo mounted too much. Finally I made an appointment. When we brought Neo in, we found that our vet was not in that day. After talking to that doctor and calling Robyn, we decided to take Neo back home. We were already nervous and could not handle more concerns to leave Neo with a stranger.

We brought him in a week later. My biggest concern was whether he'd wake up from anesthesia. Fortunately, our vet called right after he woke up. Neo stayed in the hospital over night. I picked him up the next morning. He whimpered a bit when he saw me. My poor baby!

The vet did a very good job. The cut was clean and tiny. It was glued. On the first day, Neo whimpered a bit. But on the second day he was back to normal, running up and down as before.

His personality has changed much. He used to be so obsessed with mounting. He'd mount to anything, my arm, my leg, and of course, other dogs. He stopped doing that after the operation. He's also more attached to human now. Before he never wanted to leave the dog park. But now he gets bored and wants to leave. He also answers my calls, wants to sleep on my laps, and even becomes jealous if I play with other dogs or children.

We visited Robyn again and brought Neo over. We thought Neo would enjoy seeing her and his mom and sister again. But Neo just wanted to leave. Robyn had other puppies. I held one, but Neo immediately went over, and nudged me. A jealous boy. :)

We brought Neo to a friend's home. They just had a baby. When we played with the baby, Neo again nudged us, asking for attention. :)

Overall I like him more after his operation. I dont feel sad about it now. I think it's a right decision, and good for him.
